Greetings!
This month is filled with exciting announcements, but first we need to highlight a very frightening regulatory development requiring all of our immediate attention, and that is the Codex standards being imposed worldwide, including here in the U.S.

Under Codex:

• EVERY dairy cow (including those considered "organic") MUST be treated with bovine growth hormone.

• EVERY animal used for food on the planet (birds, fish, meat) must be treated with subclinical antibiotics & exogenous growth hormones.

• ALL food be irradiated unless eaten locally and raw.

If you are concerned about your freedom of choice to keep chemicals and hormones off of your dining room table and to supplement your diet with the vitamins and herbs that you believe in, then you must act. Healthy Fats

Dr. Eric N. Rydland, M.D.

One of the most important missing factors in the contemporary diet is healthy fat. According to historians the dietary fat balance of five generations ago had the proper balance of fatty acids. This allowed the body to function optimally. The modern diet is sorely lacking in balance causing much of the chronic illness seen in America today. We suffer from excessive amounts of circulating chemicals causing eczema, arthritis, dry skin, cradle cap, acne, recurrent infections, heart disease and ADHD. These inflammatory prostaglandins are formed from excessive amounts of "omega six" fatty acids in the foods we eat.

Cholesterol Lowering Effects Of Chlorella

Dr. Victor Marcial-Vega M.D.
Interim results of an open label study to determine the cholesterol lowering effects of daily supplementation with Nature's Balance Chlorella are exciting! Among the first ten patients enrolled, eight (80.0%) experienced reductions in cholesterol of between 50 to 100 points (average 65 points) over the initial 30 days of supplementation. Of the two that showed no response, one patient was taking heavy medications for other conditions and the other was experiencing a period of severe mental stress due to family sickness and bereavement. Of interest, a significant drop in blood pressure was recorded among patients identified as hypertensive. Five of the initial ten patients (50%) were identified as clinically-hypertensive. Following their initial 30- day re-evaluation, two of the five were able to cease taking prescribed anti-hypertensive medications altogether, while the remaining three were able to significantly reduce their dosage.

Natural Remedies For Your Sore Throat

Q: Now that sore throat season is here, can you recommend any treatments that don't require medication?

A: Many people assume that antibiotics are the cure for sore throat, but since a virus is most often to blame, antibiotics are of no help. Allergy, dry air, smoky air, or overuse of the vocal cords can also cause sore throat. Less frequently, a sore throat can be due to a bacterium known as "strep." The only way to diagnose strep is with a throat culture. If the test is positive, antibiotics are needed.

Natural medicines offer great relief for the majority of sore throats. If you use these remedies promptly, at the first sign of throat distress, you may well save yourself a visit to your doctor and lost days of work or play. A natural cure for sore throat may seem time-consuming, but it usually takes care of the problem within 24 hours, as it did in my case.

Gargle. My favorite gargle is freshly made chamomile tea (cooled to tolerance). Use one tea bag per four ounces of water, steeped for six minutes. Chamomile has anti-inflammatory effects and will reduce sore throat pain. Gargle for 60 seconds and then spit out. Repeat as needed for pain. To boost the antiseptic properties of your gargle, add one teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide to each four-ounce chamomile gargle.

OR

Gargle 6 drops of Tea Tree Oil in 4 ounces warm water and spit three times a day

Drink tea. Demulcent* herbs moisten and reduce irritation in mucous membranes. The best choices for sore throat are licorice root, slippery elm, marshmallow root and fenugreek. You can buy these herbs individually in bulk and make a tea using two teaspoons of any combination of the herbs per six ounces of water. Or buy a sore throat formula in tea bags. A favorite is "Throat Coat" by Traditional Medicinals, available in many health-food stores. Do your best to drink six ounces of tea every two waking hours until your symptoms are gone.

*Demulcent herbs often have a high content of mucilage, and have been used to soothe and protect irritated or inflammed internal tissues of the body. Mucilage is a thick gluey substance, often produced by plants. Mucilage is another term for so called exopolysaccharides, which are sugar substances.*

Try hydrotherapy. To hasten healing, use hydration and a heating compress. At the first sign of a sore throat, hydrate by having an eight-ounce glass of water every waking hour.

Heat packs / Cool packs. Use a heating compress twice a day. Cover a hot, moist towel with a dry towel and let it cool slightly so you don't burn yourself. Wrap it around your entire neck and leave it in place for five minutes. Remove the hot towel, and immediately wrap your neck with a towel doused in cold tap water, covered with a dry towel. Leave the cold wrap in place for 20 minutes if you can. Alternating the hot and cold stimulates circulation in the inflamed tissues of the throat, allowing the throat to heal.

Immune-boosting tinctures. I have used and highly recommend Be Well Flu.

If you don't notice improvement within two days, or find that the condition is getting worse, see a doctor for a throat culture.

*With the cold season, many people take and recommend to others, the herbal Ecchinacea. Although this IS an effective immune supporter, it SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN BY THOSE WHO HAVE AN ALLERGY TO RAGWEED, SUNFLOWERS, DAISIES OR OTHER FLOWERS IN THIS SAME FAMILY.

Under Construction

Hello Everyone! Thanks for checking back. I have been receiving so much information on many relative topics, that I decided it best to thin things out to avoid topic confusion and post jumbling. I tried to simplify the blogging process by devoting seperate "blogs" for each category of topics, with The Biggest Conspiracy Theory becoming "Home Base".

I will use Home Base for posting my very own words, ideas and thoughts on many different topics. I hope to make it an interactive place among us like-minded seekers of truth, with a place for give and take conversation. Until I set up a dialogue tool on the page, please feel free to use the comment buttons to speak your mind.

I am still transfering past posts to the proper place and adding new material daily. Check out Sugar, Sugar for articles on sugar, substitutes, and sugar illnesses ( a must read for everyone!). Visit News & Views On Foods for info on beef, other meats, milk and other dairy. And go see Drugs, Diseases & Vaccinations for materials along these themes.

I hope this is simpler for everyone.

Blog-On, ask questions and don't stop seeking truth!

Why I Chose To Do This Blog

Hello bloggers. I had to post today. I have to tell you about this book I'm reading. I won't tell you who it's written by until the end*, because most people have heard the author's name and made up their minds about how they feel based on hear-say. If you've already read the book, then of course you'll know who it is. Sshhh. Don't give it away. The blue is me. The red is my paraphrase from the book.

This person was diagnosed by three of the top heart specialists in the country. They each concluded he had been born with severe mitral valve prolapse. He was told there was no cure, yet they all reccommmended experimental drugs and risky surgery, that even if it went well wouldn't offer a normal life expectancy.

He sought another opinion, from a doctor he had heard about in a lecture that was integrating homeopathic and natural remedies with modern medicine and diagnostic equipment.

Upon arrival, he did not tell this doctor his diagnosis. The doc examined him with an 'magical' energy measuring machine. Within a couple minutes he was given the same diagnosis that the 'top 3' had taken several days to produce. "You have severe mitral valve prolape", he stated. The man said, "Yes I know. I understand it is incurable." The doctors response was startling. "Yes, in America it is incurable, but there are natural treatments in other countries that can reverse this problem in a matter of weeks. Unfortunately, the FDA has not approved these treatments. So, yes, in America it is incurable."

This is outrageous, but I believe it to be true. Upon further reading of the book he reveals why it is true, how it is true and just how much more "they" are hiding.

Sound paranoid? Definitely.
Sound too big and too extreme to be true? Of course.
Do I believe it anyway? YES!

I have been reading articles, food labels, accusations from others and it makes sense. I have been visiting natural food stores, and reading as much as possible on how other countries treat illnesses and diseases. I have been reading horror stories about the FDA and our food. Have you ever considered that other countries are not obese. They aren't diabetic. They aren't eating what we eat and they are using herbs and holistic practices.

The fact is that our health (or lack of) is big business. "They" profit from keeping us sick and on drugs.

For example, did you know that vitamin E has been proven and re-proven in double blind studies to be just as, if not more, effective as a blood thinner than it's drug counterpart. But, where is their profit in telling you to take vitamin E?

I have opened my ears and eyes. I am seeking information from others experiences. I am seeking a better way. I believe in the articles I am passing on to you. I will be sharing more, here on the "HomeBase" page in the coming days.

Be well & Be blessed.
Alisa

E-Mail to FDA Rep regarding Codex *NEW*

Just for the heck of it, I wrote to a rep. of the FDA regarding Codex. Following is my letter and her response to it..

Subject: re:codex

To Whom It May Concern,
To my understanding Codex is along the same lines as 'eminent domain'. First 'you' take our right to possess our own land, of which our family may have owned for generations, if it has the potential to generate substantial income and taxes for the government or big business. Now 'you' are going to take away our God given right to heal ourselves with God's provisions in the earths. The pharma-cartel is trying to use its influence within Codex to set standards that will outlaw all non-patentable natural therapies threatening its global markets for patentable, synthetic drugs. From what I've read, Codex has been manipulated from its very beginnings, by corporate interests in the global pharmaceutical and food markets.

It is clear that the effects of the implementation of these standards (called the: 'Codex Guidelines for Vitamin and Mineral Food Supplements') would include:

1.Removal of access to a large number of the most effective forms of safe micronutrients.
2.The prevention of sale of all natural supplements without a doctor's prescription.
3.Delivery of human healthcare exclusively into the hands of the pharmaceutical industry.
4.Consequent increases in unnecessary deaths from diseases that should long ago have been eradicated and from the
side effects of the drugs themselves.

In contrast to the proposed Guidelines, the Dr. Rath Health Foundation applauds the
position taken by some delegations at last year's Codex meeting to support open access to natural health remedies, instead of restricting access. Homeopathic practitioners, supplement users and herbalists have campaigned for many years for the right to:

1.Unrestricted access to information about the health benefits of vitamins and other natural therapies as the key to a long and healthy life without risks.
2.Dissemination of life-saving natural health information worldwide so that every human being has the chance to gain control over his/her health.
3.The eradication of cardiovascular disease, cancer and many other of today's common health problems via scientifically proven, safe, effective and affordable natural remedies.

PLEASE DON'T ALOW THIS TO HAPPEN . IT IS EVERY HUMAN BEINGS RIGHT TO POSSESS THE FRUITS OF THE EARTH WHICH OUR CREATOR GAVE TO US.

SINCERELY,
ALISA ROOKS

7-26-05 UPDATE
CFSAN/Office of Nutritional Products, Labeling and Dietary Supplements
2005 Update
Responses to Questions about Codex and Dietary Supplements

In July of 2005, the Codex Alimentarius Commission adopted the Guidelines for Vitamin and Mineral Food Supplements. Some U.S. citizens have expressed concern that these Guidelines will restrict consumers' access to the wide range of vitamin and mineral supplements of varying potencies legally sold in the United States. Others are concerned that the Guidelines will limit the amount and type of information on the labels of dietary supplements sold in the United States. Still others believe that the Guidelines will require dietary supplements to be sold as drugs in the United States.

We hope the responses below help you understand why the Codex Guidelines for Vitamin and Mineral Food Supplements will not restrict U.S. consumers' access to vitamin and mineral supplements or impose any restrictions that go beyond those established by U.S. law. We also hope the responses help explain why the U.S. participates in the Codex
process and how you can keep abreast of Codex activities.

• What is Codex?
(for length, I cut this section as it is exactly what I posted in my first Codex post.)
• What work has Codex undertaken on vitamin and mineral supplements?
• What is the scope and content of these Guidelines?
• What has been the U.S. position on these Guidelines?
• Why won't these Guidelines restrict U.S. consumers' access to vitamin and mineral supplements?
• The Guidelines also include packaging and labeling provisions for vitamin andm mineral food supplement products. Would vitamin and mineral supplements sold in the U.S. be required to comply with these?
• If the U.S. is not trying to harmonize its regulatory framework for dietary supplements with Codex, what are the benefits of our country participating in the process of developing these Codex Guidelines?
• How can I keep abreast of the work of Codex?

What work has Codex undertaken on vitamin and mineral supplements?
In the early 1990's, the Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses (CCNFSDU) began discussions on guidelines for vitamin and mineral supplements.

This Committee is responsible for studying nutritional issues referred by the Codex Alimentarius Commission; drafting provisions, as appropriate, on the nutritional aspects of all foods; and developing standards, guidelines, or related texts for foods for special dietary uses. Germany is the host government for the Committee, which has met either every year or every other year since 1966.

At the 26th CCNFSDU session (Bonn, November 1-5, 2004), the Committee completed work on Draft Guidelines for Vitamin and Mineral Food Supplements and submitted them for adoption by the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC). The Guidelines were adopted at the 28th CAC Session that was held in Rome on July 4-9, 2005.

What is the scope and content of these Guidelines?
The Guidelines apply only to supplements that contain vitamins and/or minerals, where these products are regulated as foods. The Guidelines address the composition of vitamin and mineral supplements, including
the safety, purity, and bioavailability of the sources of vitamins and minerals. The Guidelines do not specify upper limits for vitamins and minerals in supplements. Instead, they provide criteria for establishing maximum amounts of vitamins and minerals per daily portion of supplement consumed, as recommended by the manufacturer. The criteria specify that maximum amounts should be established by
scientific risk assessment based on generally accepted scientific data and taking into consideration, as appropriate, the varying degrees of sensitivity of different consumer groups.

The Guidelines also address the packaging and labeling of vitamin and mineral supplements.
We encourage you to read the complete text of the Guidelines, which is found in Appendix II of the report of the most recent session of the CCNFSDU. See ALINORM 5/28/26 on the Codex website (see "Reports" under the "Meetings and Events" pull down menu).

What has been the U.S. position on these Guidelines?
The U.S. supports consumer choice and access to dietary supplements that are safe and labeled in a truthful and non-misleading manner. The Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA) ensures that a broad array of dietary supplements are available to U.S. consumers. The Codex Guidelines for Vitamin and Mineral Food
Supplements do not, in any way, affect the availability of supplement products to U.S. consumers. On the contrary, the absence of science-based Codex guidelines could adversely affect the ability of U.S. manufacturers to compete in the international marketplace.

Why won't these Guidelines restrict U.S. consumers' access to vitamin and mineral supplements?
Some consumers mistakenly believe that with the adoption of the Guidelines on Vitamin and Mineral Food Supplements, the U.S. is required to automatically change its laws and regulations to comply with the international standard. Some have expressed concerns that the World Trade Organization (WTO) and its trade dispute settlement panels may place pressure on the U.S. to change its laws because of nternational trade agreements such as the Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS Agreement), which references Codex as the international organization for food safety standards. We see no basis for these concerns. First, the DSHEA covers a much broader range of dietary supplements than the vitamin and mineral supplements that are the subject of the Codex Guidelines. Moreover, for supplements covered by these Guidelines, we note the following:

• The SPS Agreement does not require a country to adopt any international standard. Rather, the SPS Agreement provides that members may base their Sanitary and Phytosanitary measures either on international standards, guidelines or recommendations, where they exist, or may establish measures that result in a higher level of protection if there is a scientific justification, or if a country determines it to be appropriate in accord with provisions of the SPS Agreement
(SPS Agreement, Article 3(1) and (3)).
• WTO and WTO dispute panels do not have the power to change U.S. law. If a WTO decision in response to a dispute settlement panel is adverse to the U.S., only Congress and the Administration can decide whether to implement the panel recommendation, and, if so, how to implement it.
• For dietary supplements, it is unlikely that another country will accuse the U.S. of imposing a trade barrier for the importation of supplement products into the U.S. marketplace because the U.S. laws and regulations are generally broader in scope and less restrictive than the international standard.
• However, other countries with more restrictive laws and regulations for dietary supplement products than the U.S. may create trade barriers to the importation of products manufactured by the U.S. dietary supplement industry. Thus, the U.S. government's involvement in the setting of international standards can help minimize the potential of trade barriers to U.S products in international trade. Further, there is no basis for the concern that the Codex Guidelines on Vitamin and Mineral Food Supplements would require dietary supplements be sold as prescription drugs in the United States. First, there is nothing in the Guidelines that suggests that supplements be sold as drugs requiring a prescription. Second, U.S. regulatory agencies are bound by the laws established by Congress, not by Codex standards. Third, because of our generally less restrictive standards, it is unlikely that the trade dispute would be brought against the U.S.

In summary, U.S. consumers' access to a broad array of dietary supplements under DSHEA would not be changed in any way by Codex's adoption of guidelines on vitamin and mineral food supplements. The Guidelines also include packaging and labeling provisions for vitamin and mineral food supplement products.

Would vitamin and mineral supplements sold in the U.S. be required to comply with these?

All Codex standards and related texts are voluntary, and vitamin and mineral food supplement products sold in the U.S. would not be required to comply with provisions that are more restrictive than U.S. law (i.e., DSHEA).

If the U.S. is not trying to harmonize its regulatory framework for dietary supplements with Codex, what are the benefits of our country participating in the process of developing these Codex Guidelines?

Our participation in the Codex process is important to encourage the development of guidelines on vitamin and mineral supplements that are based on sound science and not on arbitrary criteria. For example, encouraging the use of science-based risk assessment for determining the maximum levels of vitamins and minerals in supplements reduces the chance that arbitrary standards will be used for determining maximum levels.

How can I keep abreast of the work of Codex?

To keep abreast of U.S. Codex activities, you may want to periodically access the U.S. Codex Office website.

You can also obtain the agenda and reference documents for commission and committee meetings and final reports from these meetings from the Rome Codex website.

The appendices to the committee reports provide the latest draft versions following a committee meeting of some of the Codex standards that are being developed or revised by the Committee.
